Buffaure mountain refuges
The Buffaure area boasts a rich gastronomic offer, accompanied by the hospitality of typical mountain huts and spectacular views of the Val di Fassa Dolomites. At high altitude, five mountain refuges offer the best dishes of local tradition, numerous Ladin and Trentino specialties, as well as refined dishes prepared with passion. Once you reach the Buffaure basin, you will find the recently renovated Chalet la Bolp and the Rifugio Buffaure, with its large sunny terrace. Walking uphill, you will find Baita Cuz, a true oasis in the middle of the mountain featuring splendid panoramic suites for overnight stays. Going further up to the 2,354 meters of Col de Valvacin, Rifugio El Zedron awaits you with views of the Marmolada and tasty delicacies. From Buffaure, it is also possible to hike down through the wild Val Jumela and stop for a recharging break at Malga Jumela, a small corner of paradise where you can savour the true taste of the mountains. Finally, going down towards Pozza di Fassa, at the foot of the Vulcano slope, lies the Dolomites Geyser, a truly unusual and fascinating location that offers restaurant service and is also ideal for an aperitif or an après-ski evening.
TRENCH PEOPLE
Saturday Take the chairlift up to the stunning basin of the Costabella Ridges. From here, we will begin a trail through alpine pastures and high-altitude vistas, immersed in the beauty of the Dolomites. The itinerary leads us to discover the trenches and tunnels of the Italian front line during the First World War, for an experience that blends nature, history, and memory.
THE CITY OF MARMOTS
Friday Take the Costabella chairlift at Passo San Pellegrino for a pleasant walk through wide, high-altitude pastures, surrounded by a Dolomite scenery of extraordinary beauty. This easy trail is suitable for everyone and leads to one of the areas most frequented by marmots, where you can spot them popping out of their burrows and hear their characteristic whistles echoing across the alpine meadows.

The lifts take us to wonderful places Wednesday Let’s go to the mountains, a high-altitude excursion made easier by using the ski lifts to fully enjoy the beauty of our mountains. We will alternate two excursions in the heart of Catinaccio, one from the magnificent Gardeccia basin to the foot of the Vajolet Towers, while the second follows the Vial de le Feide until reaching the Roda de Vael refuge, then completing a loop to return to Ciampedie.

Excursions Costabella
Once you step off at the top station of the Costabella chairlift, you will find yourself in an area rich in panoramic trails and historic stops. The zone offers trekking and walks for all ages and skill levels: easy strolls for families, intermediate hikes, as well as expert excursions and via ferratas. Among the simple walks for families, a must-mention is the CAI trail No. 604, which leads to the Passo delle Selle Refuge (2,530 m). This oasis of peace among the mountains offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding Dolomites: the Costabella Ridge in the foreground, Cima Bocche, Cima Juribrutto, the majestic Pale di San Martino, Mount Civetta, and Mount Pelmo to the east, as well as the entire Monzoni Group, the Catinaccio Group, and the scree slopes of Val San Nicolò to the west. Family Catinaccio
The Catinaccio Rosengarten area is a paradise for families! The vast Ciampedie plateau is the perfect destination for a day at high altitude with your children. At an altitude of 2,000 meters, you will find a green expanse to run and play, along with cozy mountain huts for a short break or a traditional lunch. In addition to its network of trails, panoramic hikes, and simple walks suitable for young children, the area offers a rich calendar of weekly activities. It starts on Mondays with a medium-difficulty hike to the Christomannos Eagle, a large bronze eagle in a panoramic position at the slopes of Majarè and Roda de Vael. On Tuesdays, visitors go “hunting” for marmots along an easy guided walk. Wednesdays and Thursdays feature slow-paced walks with alpacas to make friends with these gentle animals and discover local history, facts, and legends. EXCURSION TO THE ALPINE PASTURE
Friday A simple hike for families to discover the animals and activities of the “malghe”, the typical mountain huts located in the alpine pastures. We’ll depart from Ciampedie and head to one of the mountain pastures in the Catinaccio Rosengarten. Here, the adventure begins: we’ll discover the animals that live in a “malga”, what it’s like to work and spend the summer at high altitude, and the activities carried out there. After the visit, we’ll return to Ciampedie, always accompanied by a mountain guide.
YOGA & BRUNCH
Thursday A morning of well-being and peace in nature, guided by a holistic instructor. The program includes brief meditation sessions along the trail before reaching Prà Martin, the hike’s final destination. Here, a relaxing high-altitude yoga class will be offered, followed by a delicious brunch at the Baita Prà Martin: just what you need to start the day full of energy.
DOLO-MYTHIC TREKKING WITH ALPACAS
Wednesday and Thursday Have you ever walked with an alpaca? In Val di Fassa, you can! Every Wednesday and Thursday, in the beautiful Ciampedie plain, you can take a relaxing walk lasting about an hour in the company of these animals, known for being very docile and curious. Three hikes are scheduled per day, both in the morning and in the afternoon.
HIKE TO THE CHRISTOMANNOS EAGLE
Monday A medium-difficulty hike to discover the beautiful Roda de Vael area, reaching the large bronze eagle, a monument dedicated to Theodor Christomannos and located in a panoramic position on the slopes of Majaré and Roda de Vael. Optional lunch at the Roda de Vael refuge or the Marino Pederiva hut. Guided hike with a mountain guide. Maximum number of participants: 20 people
SLURP! HOW DELICIOUS IS ALPINE CHEESE!
Thursday A mountain pasture experience to discover the secrets of cheesemaking and the farm animals. Lucia will lead you into the barn to brush the cows and practice milking. Afterwards, it’s the chickens’ turn to collect fresh eggs to make delicious fritters. Activity organized by the managers of Malga Jumela. The Malga Jumela mountain pasture can be reached with an easy downhill walk from the Buffaure valley in about 40 minutes (return uphill).
THE TASTE OF BUTTER
Wednesday We’ll forage for aromatic Alpine herbs and learn how to prepare them. We’ll then make butter and flavor it, creating unique and original flavors. The activity will conclude with a moment of sharing, enjoying “strauben,” traditional sweet fritters. Activity organized by the managers of Malga Jumela. The Malga Jumela mountain hut can be reached with an easy downhill walk from the Buffaure basin in about 40 minutes (return uphill).
LOOKING IN THE WOODS: TRACES, ANIMALS, AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Tuesday An experiential workshop on a mountain pasture to discover mountain wildlife. Participants will be guided on a short exploration of the surrounding area, observing the forest with binoculars, recognizing animal tracks and learning to enjoy nature with respect. The experience continues with a sensory experience, touching various natural elements such as antlers, feathers, and artifacts. The activity concludes with a brief introduction to nature photography. An engaging activity that combines nature, discovery, and creativity, led by the managers of Malga Jumela. The Malga Jumela mountain hut can be reached with an easy downhill walk from the Buffaure basin in about 40 minutes (return uphill).
Fly Line
The Catinaccio Rosengarten Fly Line is an aerial path, unique in Trentino, built in 2015 in Vigo di Fassa. It is an 1,100-meter-long wire route suspended in the woods and anchored to the trees. The descent takes place on a controlled-speed pulley, with participants safely secured in a comfortable seated harness. This six-minute descent offers a unique experience, immersed in nature with breathtaking views of the Catinaccio Group. The Fly Line is suitable for everyone weighing between 15 and 120 kg (both adults and children). The system was installed without civil engineering works, fully respecting the mountain environment and vegetation. The Fly Line is anchored to the trees without damaging them or obstructing their natural growth. This is achieved through wooden protections that ensure long-term preservation, without driving bolts or nails into the trunks. Kinderpark Ciampedie
The Kinderpark is a playground at an altitude of 2,000 meters in Ciampedie, located in the beautiful “rose garden” in the heart of the Catinaccio. The park can be reached by taking the Catinaccio cable car from the village of Vigo di Fassa or the chairlifts from Pera di Fassa. For parents who wish to go on more challenging hikes without any worries, the playground provides a supervised childcare service with entertainers for children aged four and up. This service is available for one hour, half a day, or a full day. Various educational activities are also offered. CIAMPEDIE KINDERPARK ACTIVITIES LAURIN THE FARMER A special creative workshop for children. The young participants will become real farmers for a day: they will plant a seed, place it in their own little pot, and learn how to take care of it. THE BLUE CROW: NEW SUMMER 2026 This new and exciting thematic route for families, featuring an illustrated booklet, will introduce both adults and children to the story of the Blue Crow, the guardian of the mountain who lost a magic word that once illuminated the Dolomites. Along the nine-stage trail, you’ll rediscover the ancient value of Val di Fassa’s legends, bringing their symbolic characters to light and listening to the silent voice of nature. Stage by stage, children will help the Blue Crow find the letters lost in the woods to reconstruct the magic word and give voice to the characters of ancient legends such as the Salvan, Vivana, Stria, Krampus, and King Laurin. It’s a self-guided path which consists in a simple walk around the flat Ciampedie valley, accessible either from Pera by chairlift or from Vigo by cable car. There are 23 mountain huts and dairy farms in the Catinaccio Rosengarten hiking area, including those on the Ciampedie plateau, in Gardeccia, and those scattered at higher altitudes in the heart of Catinaccio.In addition to the rich gastronomic offer of Ladin and Trentino specialties and refined dishes, some huts also provide overnight accommodation. This allows you to experience the true essence of the mountains by spending the night at high altitude and waking up the next day, ready for a new mountain adventure.
Art at high altitude
Land Art Works at Buffaure How many forms can wood take? Find it out on an easy route where you can meet a majestic eagle, a pack of wolves and the imposing “Bregostana”, but also funny thrones and really curious benches. The Buffaure area boasts numerous wooden works of art created by the artist Francesco Avancini, a Trentino artist who has been active for over twenty years with countless spectacular creations under his belt, and by Marco Nones, another artist who lives and works in Val di Fiemme, a performer and exponent of environmental art. As soon as you reach the Buffaure plain you will see how the incredible works in wood and natural materials come to life in front of the most beautiful views of the Dolomites.
